Now in its fourth year, Houston’s Free Press Summer Fest fell upon the green slope of Eleanor Tinsley Park, boasting its most eclectic lineup to date. Texas royalty Willie Nelson shared stages with electronic act Pretty Lights. Major Lazer’s dancehall bump prefaced The Doggfather’s haze. A reunite Descendents gave way to avant-weirdos Primus. And all the while the sun beat down with a furious Texas vengeance.

free press summer fest this weekend!

this weekend, houston’s annual two-day music festival hosted by free press houston will descend upon eleanor tinsley park for its fourth incarnation, boasting its most eclectic lineup to date. we’ll be on hand, as always, to take in the sights, sounds, people, and art our weird city has to offer. make sure you’re following us on twitter for updates and stay tuned for a full festival recap after the weekend, that is if we haven’t melted under the 900 degree heat.

and just like that, what was probably the game’s #1 selling point to the r.e.d. album hits the internet. and for as much collective shit i’ve given dr. dre and snoop dogg over the past few years respectively, this is a great collaboration on all counts. and for those wondering, snoop’s limited to about 8 bars tops.

ben folds has been covering dre’s “bitches ain’t shit” at his live shows for quite some time now. at a recent concert at LA’s wiltern theatre, he was joined by everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed 90′s dad, bob saget. again, that’s ben, bitches, and bob. eat shit, kimmy gibbler.

tyga – really raw [f. pharrell, game, snoop dogg] (2011)

i dig this beat, which comes courtesy of the neptunes. honestly though, tyga should’ve kept everyone off. he sounds great on it, and the other two just sound like old washed up rappers. snoop has become more of a nuisance than anything these days. this is off his album careless world, coming out this spring/summer.

wiz khalifa – black and yellow [g-mix f. snoop dogg, t-pain and juicy j] (2010)

this should’ve stayed an idea. sad to say, but wiz handles this song perfectly fine on his own. t-pain is annoying as hell on this, and i’m a fan. snoop has managed to become one of the worst rappers around nowadays. hang it up.

dre’s first music video in a looooong time. good to see him back and good to see a pretty cool music video for an extremely underwhelming song. i’m still (kinda) looking forward to detox, so here’s to hoping there are some quality cuts on it.

rumored detox single. way better than “under pressure,” but that’s like picking getting punched in your chest instead of your genitals. the beat goes, though.

edit: this is definitely on detox. dre released the artwork for the record, put the mastered out for everyone, and mentioned that it’s the only weed song on the record. song still sucks, but i’ll be damned if this mastered beat isn’t 10x what it was initially.

snoop dogg – gangsta luv g-mix [f. mayer hawthorne] (2010)

seems like everyone’s hopping on the mayer hawthorne bandwagon. this is a great look, and an even greater hook. random collaboration, for sure. mayer takes the place of the-dream on this remix of snoop’s less than stellar single. hopefully more people follow suit and make mr. hawthorne a household name.
