daft punk – fall [m83 remix] (2011)

while daft punk’s management may not be happy about the forthcoming remix album tron: legacy r3configur3d, out on walt disney records of course, that hasn’t stopped ambient shoegazers m83 from contributing their take on the electronic duo’s “fall.” check it out below.

stream: the black swan OST (2011)

i finally got around to seeing darren aronofsky’s latest film venture the black swan this past week, thanks to all the hype and rave reviews surrounding it. i definitely give two thumbs up for all the hype involved, as i enjoyed it thoroughly. and no, it isn’t JUST because of kunis and portman. i made note during the movie that i’d download the soundtrack as soon as i got home. though it’s been out for a while, you can stream the entire thing (as performed and composed by clint mansell, who’s worked on soundtracks for all of aronofsky’s films) at the empire website, who’s currently busy promoting the UK release of the movie.

stream: bored to death – ost (2010)

bored to death is a comedy series on hbo that stars the likes of three fine gentleman; jason schwartzman, ted dansen and zack galifianakis. to keep it brief, schwartzman plays a guy who’s…bored and puts up phony craigslist ads looking for detective work and for the most part, hilarity and shenanigans ensue. as is the case with most shows (especially on HBO), the soundtrack is full of feel-good tunes and tiny soundbites of the quirks found within episodes. (see: ted dansen saying that ‘his feet feel interesting’ while under the influence of marijuana) also, i’d like to extend a huge plea to HBO to release a soundtrack for eastbound and down. i cannot get enough of that mexican surf rock.

in any case, spinner has the entire soundtrack up for streaming. so until you find the .rar file floating around the internet, this will do.

trent reznor + atticus ross – the social network OST (2010)

ok, so i’m not here to troll THAT hard and force more hype upon all of your supple minds, but the social network was completely backed by the 98% aggregate on rotten tomatoes, the 97% on metacritic and the rest of the universal acclaim.

as far as cultural impact goes, fincher has created a commentary that easily conceptualizes and captivates this entire generation. but that’s enough hype for now, because you can just take your ass to a theater and see it yourself. since this is primarily a music website after all, i gotta shed a great deal of light on the movie’s soundtrack. trent reznor and producer/composer extraordinaire atticus ross team up for what is one of the best backdrops to a movie i’ve seen in a long time.

the full soundtrack spans a whopping 19 original compositions, and preorders for the compilation range from $5.00 for the entire digital package to $25.00 for the vinyl. not to mention, hardcopies and HD blu-ray audio’s in between. if you needed an incentive to buy, there’s a five song sampler you can download from below the jump too.

daft punk – 6 clips from tron: legacy OST (2010)

well these hit the internet, and they are apparently 100% legit. 6 clips from the tron score/soundtrack ranging everywhere from :43 to 2:58. all of these sound like my head is gonna explode from an excitement overload, too. i’d grab these before this link gets axed, because it most certainly will.

video: hans zimmer + johnny marr – inception OST [live] (2010)

[vodpod id=Video.4024324&w=425&h=350&fv=autoplay%3Dfalse%26amp%3Bbrand%3Dembed%26amp%3Bcid%3D4896583%26amp%3Blocale%3Den_US]

this is excellent. something a bit different than the normal weworemasks post. hans zimmer and johnny marr of the motherf’n smiths fame (and modest mouse too, if you like that kinda thing) were on hand at the inception release party to perform the score in its entirety. fast forward to the 8 minute mark to watch it. definitely looking forward to seeing this flick sometime soon. nolan + leo and an 88% on rotten tomatoes (as of now, anyway) couldn’t go wrong, amirite?

t-pain – save one (2010)

aw yeah. i haven’t been smart enough to watch freaknik: the musicial, but sunbear gives his stamp of approval, along with the IMDB camp. in any case, t-pain will be dropping the soundtrack with the dvd of freaknik, and this was one of the songs featured on the venture. classic t-pain, excellent song.

thom yorke – hearing damage (2009)

supposedly mr. yorke’s contribution to the new moon soundtrack is actually an outtake from the eraser sessions. either way i love it and like grizzly said, i can’t fathom how this movie has such a good soundtrack. i need to get in on the vampire trend while it’s still hot so i can get my favorite artists to contribute to a soundtrack. i think i’ll realize john dorian’s dream, and make dr. acula happen.

lykke li – possibility (2009)

i’m not trying to hit on lykke li or steal her from jerome, but it’s songs like “possibility” that really make me love her. “possibility” is off the shittiest saga of all time’s new moon soundtrack, which ironically is probably the best soundtrack of 2009, go figure. who knew that some pre-pubescent shit about vampires could boast new songs from lykke li, thom yorke and death cab for cutie? not i.

death cab for cutie – meet me on the equinox (2009)

le band

in all the hullabaloo that was the vmas (ye is nuts, beyonce is classy, and gaga is gaga: we knew all this before the spectacle) death cab quietly released their cut for the new moon soundtrack. as a non-twilight fan (and y-chromosome carrier), i can say that the song is pure death cab, though slightly soundtrack campy with their “as we walk in the dimming light, where darling understand that everything ends.” that’s vampire love if i’ve ever heard it.

karen o and the kids – all is love (2009)

i know in internet terms of time, this is far from new. i kept seeing it, and kept spacing on posting. maybe i assumed sb would post it. or i was just drunk. whatever. anyway, the track is the lead single from the soundtrack for everyone’s most anticipated movie of ’09, where the wild things are. o also composed music for the rest of the soundtrack as well as co-produced it.

“all is love” seems like quite a powerful embodiment of the spirit of the movie. it was recorded with an untrained children’s choir and with assistance of “the kids”, which consists of yeah yeah yeah’s bandmates brian chase and nick zinner along with members of deerhunter, queens of the stone age, the racounteurs, liars, the bird and the bee, and more. definitely pleased with the results and looking forward to the rest of the soundtrack, as well as of course, the movie itself.
