watch: the flaming lips – yoshimi battles the pink robots [live at sxsw]

the good and the bad goes like this: the flaming lips’ sxsw performance of their definitive record yoshimi battles the pink robots was recorded by the warner sound and is up for your viewing pleasure above. but the fucking soundguy must have been asleep at the wheel because the mix sounds so terribly muddled it’s a discredit to the 30 year-old band. watch what you can above.

video: the flaming lips + amanda palmer – the first time ever i saw your face (2012)

not letting fat baby bella’s smear campaign on the original version of the nayrok badu-starring “the first time i ever saw your face” video slow their roll, the flaming lips decided to re-record the song and make the same video with someone who is definitely a bit more game – amanda freakin’ palmer. this time though, in stead of glitter, blood, and um… white, viscous material, palmer splashes about in a tub of just plain water. nsfw, if you must know.

video: the flaming lips – knives out [radiohead cover] (2012)

radiohead’s touring family suffered an unspeakable loss over the weekend, and the band had to cancel their toronto show following the death of drum technician scott johnson during a stage collapse hours before the scheduled performance.

the flaming lips, whose show in toronto went on, took a moment to send their prayers and karma to the families of those affected by the disaster as well as pay a loving tribute in the form of a cover of “knives out.” check it out above.

well, it wouldn’t be a flaming lips music video in 2010 without a naked girl whose nipples have been poorly edited out, would it? and the main attraction is an animated fire crotch (or is it paint crotch?) that allows said naked girl to fling said fire and/or paint at her immediate surroundings. from 09′s embryonic, and totally nsfw.

festival recap: houston free press summer fest [day two] (june 6, 2010)

In an act of Summerfest self-fulfillment, day two paralleled last years weather patterns, with the excruciatingly heated first day being followed by a torrential reprieve on the second. This time, the rain would prove to be on the oppressive side, leaving gloomy clouds hanging above the festival goers and acts of Summerfest. Several weather defiant bands would throw caution to the wind and houston made the best of what mother nature had to offer in the form of the notorious mud-people. Inclement weather wasn’t enough to deter the whole of houston to miss what the festival had in store and the bands played on’ a testament to the music loving spirit of Summerfest.
