after word got out that season 8 would be its last, i was a happy camper. then i sat through season 8, complacent with the shitshow that the series had turned itself into after the first 3 (excellent) seasons. sure enough, they confirmed a season 9. then the news trickled down that bj novak and mindy kaling would both have reduced/minimal roles, and the rest followed.
it’s official: season 9 will be the end of the office, for good, according to showrunner greg daniels (who was in charge for the first 5).
notes:
-a lot of jim and pam this year (hope it’s a divorce)
-dwight will get a spin off (fact)
-who cares
in some begrudging office news, dwight schrute’s spin-off looks like it’s ready to go, as it will be given a “sneak peek” in an upcoming episode of season 9. more details about the characters, plots and more here, if you’re so inclined.
the office that you’ve grown to hate now has more reasons to do so. writer and recurring actor bj novak (ryan) won’t be returning for the ninth season – and hey, neither will mindy kaling (kelly). both will be involved with developing, writing and releasing the mindy project.
NBC has released its ‘edgier’ lineup. thursdays will never be the same, as ‘community’ will hit the backburner and not premiere until october 19th – a friday – signaling it’s early grave. the rest of the shows, times and dates can be seen at the links below.
also, when the fuck is the office going to end? for the love of god.
here’s about 15 minutes (almost an episode, right?) of bloopers from season one. it has the antics of ricky gervais and will ferrell, for those wondering. the new, carrell-less season kicks off next thursday, september 22nd.
NBC just released extended previews for 3 of their flagship shows, all of which have new seasons premiering on september 22nd. shall be a good day.
some notes:
-the office has always been inconsistent. there’s a much bigger likelihood that a season without steve carrell will tank, rather succeed. seeing as how it’s the last season, i’m sure very few people care. i’ve continued to watch the show blindly, but it’s mainly to complain. it’s had its share of great moments. see: threat level midnight.
-parks and recreation will immediately introduce us to the infamous bitch, tammy one. we’ll also see way more adam scott (always a good thing) and aziz in flashier clothes, working in close proximity to jean-ralphio. winning.
-community will have john goodman, and that’s pretty awesome. catch the office and community previews below the jump.
the office has been a staple in my ‘show repertoire’ for the past 6ish years. even though it’s had it’s fair share of ups and downs, i’ve remained loyal to the show and its ever-changing set of writers through the horrors of many episodes in seasons 4-7. when carrell announced he was leaving and the writers showed no signs of calling it quits, i was immediately taken aback at how stupid of a decision that was. regardless, it’s still sad to see him go, and i’ll continue to watch. for now, catch this cute farewell clip of michael scott saying bye to his fans through the lens of angela’s flipcam.
for the record, i haven’t seen scott’s final episode yet (dvr’d in lieu of the draft and nba playoffs) so i’ll get to watching this later.
edit: hit the jump for my thoughts. kinda spoilerish about the season, but whatever.
oh sweet goodness that is thursday nights. nbc’s stacked lineup is back (sans parks and recreation) with all new seasons of community, 30 rock and the office. instead of trying to form a coherent paragraph worthy of touching all the bases, i’m just gonna make a list. deal with it!
-season one of community was stellar. and underrated comedy that won over a lot of fans in the off-season (me included) that’s kicking off the night. i’m tired of betty white too, but i have no doubts the episode and sub sequential season will deliver. not to mention, they’ve got emmy nominations to get.
-tonight marks the premiere of the FIFTH season of 30 rock, and you know, no one’s doubting this show. it’s never sucked, and never had the slightest bit of a subpar episode. looking forward to the live episode on october 14th.
-the office…we’ll see. every episode since season 4 started has been hit or miss, and i don’t think they plan on stopping that anytime soon. here’s to hoping they have some great things in store for steve carrell’s bon voyage season.
-outsourced - ok, so i’m indian. and i say this show’s probably got 2 good episodes max. the stereotypes will run its course and nbc will regret giving parks the shaft (until february, anyway.) looking to be proven wrong, but at the same time, i don’t need to watch any more tv.
and of course, right after that’s all over, you got it’s always sunny in philly and the league on fx. do yourself a favor, though. thursday night sounds really sedentary, so do a fucking push-up every commercial break or something. here’s the real kickpunch of the night: i’ll be at a show, so i’ll be hitting up the dvr/torrents as soon as i get home, boi!
