after the disappointment of joanna newsom canceling her houston tour date due to ‘soft ticket sales’ (which btw, i find hard to believe as she sold-out houston’s orange show at her last outing), i can assuage that bitter pill with the just-released stream of the newsom tribute album versions of joanna. 21 artists took on the folk-appalachia of the songstress, from her first album to her latest. stream the whole thing below.
stream it below the jump.
that’s right, folks. the wee-voiced harpist on everyone’s lips is going to be memorialized with her very own tribute album, cleverly titled versions of joanna. artists like ian cooke, owen pallett, m. ward and joel cathey will be issuing their take on the vivid imagery of ms newsom’s songs. the artwork and tracklist can be viewed after the jump.
up above, is anti-folk forefather billy bragg with his take on joanna newsom’s have one on me track “on a good day,” as he looks solemnly out a hotel window. the fade-out is the pièce de résistance.
