in this beautifully shot mini-documentary, we get an introspective look at jacob bannon, frontman of the legendary converge. rungs in the ladder is described as “the latest in an ongoing series of documentaries by mcfarland and pecci profiling people carving a meaningful existence for themselves on the fringes of society”. bannon couldn’t be a more fitting profile and this video is an inspiring must-watch for any music fan (or fan of any creative art form for that matter).
lee fields keeps the promo train going full steam as he gears up for a european tour with a mad sexy video for the title track from his latest album. in other news, mr. fields is performing in marfa, texas with black joe lewis this sunday. really lee? really?? marfa?!? messed up, fam.
sadly, marques toliver’s debut album isn’t due till early 2013, but in the meantime you can enjoy the brilliant first single. toliver has to be the most underexposed artist making music right now, but that should change with the new year. seriously, would i have bothered coming out of my bottle of whiskey to post this if it wasn’t brilliant? check out an amazing clip of him performing the track live after the jump.
i haven’t watched this yet because i’m at work but i can only imagine it sounding like brian fallon sitting there playing his acoustic guitar, being the greatest musician and vocalist alive. my guess is, i’m probably right.
another winning cover added to the discography of nasir. the above video reveals the artwork via clips of the many recent headlines (for better or worse…mostly worse) involving nas. full artwork after the cut.
forever love this band, forever love this album. take a look behind the scenes of the making of the 2006 album, as well as footage from the recent live show where the band performed the album in it’s entirety.
there’s just way too much swagger going on in this video. you’re missing out on a real good time if you aren’t listening to mr. fields’ new album on the daily. faithful man is out now via truth & soul.
i haven’t gotten a chance to sit down and watch these yet, but i can only imagine they’re brilliant due to the fact that brian fallon is involved. up top is an in-depth q&a session, and you can stream the music at the link below. recognize.

theophilus keeps the swag moving and links up with bing to drop the visuals for the track off timez blah blah blah dayz (the only important part is the z’s). expect london’s remix album to drop in april, as well as another project, rose island, to drop may 20th.
the one and only ron burgundy took to conan last night, jazz flute in hand, to officially announce the return of the channel 4 news team. word is the original cast and crew are on board for the sequel to everyone’s favorite will ferrell movie. world is stoked.
nasty nas sits down with peter rosenberg at sxsw for a half hour live interview as part of rosenberg’s noisemakers series. topics of discussion include his beginnings and lengthy career in hip hop, producers, jay-z, and anything else you could possibly want to hear nas ramble slightly incoherently about.
new visuals for the converse collaborative dream team of gorillaz, james murphy, and andre 3000 (the latter making quite a few cameos in the clip), featuring the members of the virtual band going about their morning rituals in their shameless-esque british flat. 2d is abused by murdoc, who refuses to amble down their three flights of stairs, noodle oversleeps and looks cute doing so, and russel’s behemoth anchoring the floating island. check it aout at the link below.
in good news for the soul community today, lee fields has announced his new album through truth & soul. this will most definitely be an upper end of year list winner, so don’t miss out. faithful man drops march 13th.
