show recap: vans warped tour (july 1, 2012)

The Warped Tour is the longest running touring music festival in the world. And in it’s 18th season, they’re sticking to the formula that brought ‘em this far. 2012 seemed to be the year that many bands of years’ past had come back to the table to bring a day of rock and roll, skateboarding and outfits parents probably wouldn’t approve of. Veteran acts like New Found Glory and Taking Back Sunday set out to share the stage with newer, younger bands like Breathe Carolina and We The Kings to cover a larger demographic than expected. The tour’s Houston stop came on July 1, moving back to Reliant Park for the first time in six years.

video: kris roe and mike herrera – olympia, WA [live; rancid cover] (2012)

somehow, somewhere, our elusive panda (who never does shit around these parts) has just soiled his pantaloons. in a punk rock fury, veteran frontmen mike herrera (mxpx) and kris roe (ataris) joined forces at a warped tour to perform a rancid classic for the acoustic onlookers.

video: every time i die – interview with punk videos rock (2012)

at the pomona, california stop of the warped tour (houston’s is this coming sunday, btw) andy of every time i die took the time to talk about a few things with punkvideosrock. the main thing worthy of note: they will be headlining a tour with the chariot and letlive. right after the warped tour.

glad to see travis playin’ with a good act again. his solo shit was a bit embarrassing, and this is a step in the right direction. a lot more singing than i expected, but i’ll take anything that wasn’t on lazarus at this point.

spotlight: warped tour (2009)

one goes down, and another goes up. our newest spotlight is warped tour. i got to go to warped tour for free, so i took the opportunities to grab some interviews with the blog. aj tag-teamed every interview with me (exactly what you’re thinking) and through the use of his upgraded iPhone (cool brag on behalf of aj), we were able to record everything and transcribe it for you lovely people.

in the spotlight, you’ll find:

interviews:
-dustin kensrue and riley breckenridge of thrice
-cove reber of saosin
-three members of innerpartysystem
-p.o.s. (done by mike damante, the honorary polar bear)
-bayside (also by mike)

videos:
-two new thrice songs – “the weight,” “all the world is mad”
-the ataris – san dimas high school football rules (yep, that one)
-p.o.s. – goodbye.

a recap of the event, and the setlists i gathered. enjoy. it took me a good 2-3 hours to put that shit together.

weworemasks.com interview: innerpartysystem (july 3, 2009)

i can’t speak for myself, but i can speak for a lot of buzz about this band’s live show. i’ve been hearing nothing but great things, so if you are brave enough to endure a warped tour, be sure to see this band’s set.

thanks to somebody at the venue who fucked up, their posted 12:30 set time ended up being a lie, because i strolled to their stage around 12:35 and ended up completely missing their set. definitely a huge bummer cause they were one of four reasons i attended the warped tour in the first place. win some, lose some though.

closing in, here’s part IV of the warped tour interviews. i got the chance to sit down with three members of innerpartysystem to chat it up for a few minutes about getting dropped from island, plans for the future and hip-hop music.

hit the jump for the interview.

weworemasks.com interview: saosin (july 3, 2009)

part III of the warped tour series brings us to cove reber of saosin fame. i’m sure a lot our readers out there don’t really listen to this band for whatever reason it may be, but i’ve always enjoyed them. they put on a great live show (which, for the record, i missed due to the fact that i was interviewing thrice at the time).

not to mention, cove is easily one of the most pleasant and positive guys i’ve ever interviewed to date. after we finished the interview spot, he mentioned the fact that he loves interviews, and that fact was apparent throughout the 15 minutes aj and i hung out with him.

hit the jump for the interview, where cove speaks on the new album, wanting to tour for the military, and the ladies of the warped tour.

interview: p.o.s. (july 3, 2009)

part II in the warped tour interview series (i just made that up) belongs to p.o.s., whose album never better has yet to leave my headphones since february. i didn’t get to catch his entire set (for shame) due to the fucking warped tour scheduling p.o.s. and thrice at the same time. considering i’ve seen thrice 16 times, i should’ve probably watched all of stef’s set, but i just couldn’t bring myself to let thrice play a set from the other side of the complex without me there.

in any case, mike damante took care of this one as well (just like the bayside one posted below). pos is always a great interview, as you may or may not have read from our sxsw interview. in part of this interview, he touches base on the influx of shitty bands on the warped tour — you know, brokencyde and millionaires. it’s a must-read.

hit the jump to read the interview, and to watch a video of p.o.s. performing “goodbye” amidst his fans. the videos a bit shaky, but it was in the middle of the crowd, so whatever.

interview: bayside (july 3, 2009)

so aj and i hit up the warped tour this past friday with our good friend mike (for today, the honorary polar bear). it was ridiculously hot, and believe the fact that if it wasn’t free, neither of us would’ve gone. in any case, the lineup was solid, heat or not.

in any case, mike works for the houston chronicle (the place i got the shaft from) and did some press at warped for us. bayside’s one of the many interviews he did, along with P.O.S. and greg graffin of bad religion fame.

hit the jump to read the interview.

video: thrice – the weight (live at warped tour) (2009)

thrice kinda has the blues? luv u thrice. beggars shall be phenomenal and in my top five at the end of the year. (/typical grizzly)

p.s. i’m getting my teenager in heat on this friday. my boy mike’s hooking it up and letting me be his +1 for warped tour in houston (seewutididthur?). i’ll be seeing thrizzy, p.o.s., the ataris, innerpartysystem, bayside and a buuuuunch of bands i probably shouldn’t be listening to.

i’ll also note that this is the 17th time i’ll be seeing thrice perform.
